Lomography is a style of analog photography characterized by the use of low-quality "toy" cameras and alternative styles of film developing. This results in lo-fi images where contrast, color and focus are off and they may be further marred by heavy vignetting and light leaks. When used in spontaneous or candid photography Lomography can create mesmerizing and ethereal pictures that while far from perfect capture a moment like nothing else.
Faux-Lomo on the other hand, uses high-quality digital equipment and computer programs to emulate the look of Lomography. Starting with a clean digital image the picture is rendered through several development programs painstakingly adding false imperfections in an attempt to recreate what a camera like the Holga does naturally. The result after using potentially thousands of dollars of equipment and hours of digital manipulation is a Lomographic forgery.
